Data Protection Issues
As innovation in technology enables organisations to use data in more versatile ways on a truly international scale, data is increasingly critical to every business. At the same time the risks of failing to adequately deal with data regulation have never been greater. The powers of the ICO continue to grow together with the regulator’s appetite to name shame and fine those who fail to comply with their statutory requirements. Data subjects and privacy groups are increasingly aware of their statutory rights and are willing to challenge the use of data by organisations.
For the public sector (and private sector companies working with public sector clients) there is the added complication of complying with FOIA. In the financial services sector, the risks are greater still as sanctions may be imposed by the FSA.
